For the final episode of the E! Network's 'Chelsea Lately', host Chelsea Handler and the show's producers pulled out all the stops, including a massive group of A-list celebrities, a last-minute performance by Miley Cyrus, a staged intervention and the grand finale - a side-splitting send off titled "Goodbye to E!" to the tune of 'We Are The World'. LD Lee Rose of Design Partners designed the lighting for the live show, which included nine High End Systems SHAPESHIFTER C1 fixtures for backlight and brilliant eye candy.


Though the show encompassed more than 1,300 episodes over eight seasons, this was the first (and last) to be produced live. Rose explains, "The finale was the first live show for the Chelsea Lately team. We were doing regular shows up to the week of the finale, so our load in and lighting time was limited. We knew the finale would have a musical performance with 50 cent, and we had to add a performance area for that band setup - then we had to figure out where to put the "last minute" Miley Cyrus performance that was added. We ended up removing the middle video screen to give us enough space for her band gear, and rigged a truss to add lighting fixtures. Those fixtures would be in the background of the rest of the show, so we needed to be able to fly it in and out at the appropriate times."

Lee says the SHAPESHIFTERs delivered the defining looks he sought for the finale. "I had seen a press release on the SHAPESHIFTERs when they were first introduced, and then viewed them at the DPS shop, which is where I decided to put them on the finale show. I was looking for a fixture that would add some animation to the backgrounds of the shots of that performance. We used nine of them as backlight and effects, and the fixtures' macros allowed us to get a lot of looks out of them with the minimal programming time we had available. Their segment movement separates them from other fixtures on the market - and that was the defining look."
